When the question itself is wrong...

Is the community at the service of each of its members, or is each member at the service of the community?.... The question is…badly put, and a mistake is made at the very start. Godless men necessarily question themselves on the problem of their reason for being and see it from the angle of personal profit, or, if they have risen a bit from that selfish position, from the angle of society or humanity. Humanity is the god of the godless.
Our reason for being is God and our happiness is in him. The community itself has no other end than to help us live for God, in God, and according to the will of God. We are no more at its service than it is at ours.
Dom Sighard Kleiner, in Serving God First
